Bedwetting?

Any remedies for a 12 yr old with a bedwetting problem?

  1. Take them to the doctor. At this age is probably a chemical or phychological reason. If they were 5 I'd say no liquids after 5, take to the potty before you go to bed, and use a pull-up. At 12 you are past that and need to get medical assistance.
  2. Usually kids that old that still have a bedwetting problem are struggling with something. Is your child having problems in school, or struggling with school work? Are they exhausted and are too tired to get out of bed? You can stop liquid intake two hours before bed time and then remind your child to go to the bathroom before bed.
  3. Pee before bed and limit the fluid intake at night. IT may be a bladder problem have them take a spoonful of baking soda before bed..
  4. Has the bedwetting just started recently, or has the child been bedwetting all along? If it has just begun, you need to visit the pediatrician. The child may have a urinary tract infection, or some other physical issue. It's also possible he or she has been sexually abused at some point recently. If this has been an ongoing problem, it may be because he or she is such a deep sleeper. Again, it's worth a visit to the doctor. They do sell "alarm" devices that wake the child up when he begins to urinate. Repeated use of this kind of device will teach the child to wake himself up on his own when he has to go.
  5. There is a medication your child can take until s/he develops more. There is a hormone our body releases that enables us to slow down urine production when we sleep. This usually develops when kids are very young (when they begin to stay dry at night), but for some kids it doesn't develop until later. Your pediatrician should be able to prescribe it for your child.
  6. My little sister wet the bed untill she was 13 years old. My parents did everything they ever heard of to do to help her, but nothing worked. She finally stoped, just like that, out of no where. She just had to grow out of it. I have a 6 years old son that still wets the bed. I'm afraid that he is doing the same thing she did. All I'm doing for him is giving him encouragement. Telling him he will stop when he is ready. There is nothing else for you to do. I know what you are going throught. Its very frustrating. Good luck.
  7. Make-sure he goes to the toilet every night before bed. Don't let him drink to much either.
